This heirloom seed has been handed down in Kate's family for at least 100 years. Grown by her maternal great-grandfather and used to help feed his family through the Great Depression, this bean is very hardy and prolific, with a wonderful, flavorful heritage taste not found in today's commercial beans.
The Logan Giant Pole Bean needs sturdy support in the garden and has vigorous growth. The beans are excellent as snap (fresh green) beans and also dry well. Kate's grandmother used them to make Appalachian "leather britches" by stringing them and hanging them to air dry, then throughout the winter, she rehydrated them by cooking them.
